Cherry Blossoms

Andrea, Nate and Grace went dowtown last weekend and report that the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

Andrea writes:

Dear Friends,

We took advantage of the Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin yesterday with some of our friends from church. I wanted to send two photos. They were beautiful and it started to rain when we got on the Metro to come home.

Hi everyone!!!

 I just wanted to take a minute and send a quick note to let you all know where the heck we are….We are finally HOME in MA  and lovin the snow.  I am enjoying the shoveling, hate to say it, but I would love to be on the slopes more. 

 Larry is great!!  He is psyched to be with Southwest, enjoying every minute.  I can’t decide if he talks more about flying now or when he was in the Navy.  It’s a toss up.  I just love to see him so happy.  The kids are growing like weeds.  Alex is just about on the move…should be any day now.  Dylan is a bit out of sorts, having moved 3 times now in his short  2 1/2 year life span.  Other wise he is great.  I am up to my waist in boxes…notice I didn’t say ears….I am making some progress.  I am excited to be in a 2 story house again…it was quite funny to watch me negotiate the stairs for the first few days, my balance was wacky!!  Otherwise for me, things are the same.  Classes start in Sept at Johnson and Whales….so I am working on the application, in my spare time.

Well, that is the low down….I am sorry I haven’t been very good about keeping in touch, but I promise things will be better now that we are settling down.  For all of you below the Mason Dixon Line…I miss all y’all southerners…hope to see you soon!!

Owen sent my Dad some news, which he forwarded to me, and which is now old, but in the interest of clearing my email inbox, here it is:

“I just wanted to update you all and tell you that Kathy got the job at Federated (the company that owns Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s).  She is very excited so I just wanted to share that with you.  Also, I hadn’t told Uncle Don yet that I got a $[snip],000/yr raise.  Good news from this camp!!!”

Diaper Derby

On February 12th, Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax sponsored the “Diaper Derby”. It was a multiple heat baby race and the winner won a cruise! Andrea provides the following report:

Grace and her cousin Audrey were in the Diaper Derby.

The diaper derby was really fun. All 110 babies were there between the ages of 1 month and 14 months. At the starting line, they had to go from one parent to another parent. They had about 9 heats and each heat had 10 babies. Audrey and Grace were really funny. Audrey didn’t leave the starting block but mainly because she couldn’t see Alayna on the other side. Gracie left the starting block but got distracted by the Babies R Us poster on the sidelines. Neither one won the cruise but they both got T shirts. A 13 1/2 months old baby won and he flew to the finish line.

Grace was in 2nd place for the 1st foot but got distracted with the baby in the “Babes R Us” poster next to her. She is the baby with the red pants, Nate is right behind her with the navy blue shirt. We didn’t win the cruise but we did get a Diaper Derby T-shirt. One baby fell asleep on the mat…it was so fun to watch. A 13 1/2 month old baby won.

Larry (II) Flying High

On February 18th I graduated from Southwest Airlines ground school and last Tuesday I flew my first flight in the 737 (with passengers in the back no less…) from Baltimore to Phoenix.  I went on to fly 12 more flights this week with a check pilot and yesterday I was officially designated a Southwest Airlines Pilot.  My week included brief (20 min) stops in Phoenix, Seattle, Spokane, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando.  I also spent overnights in Salt Lake City, Boise (ID), and Manchester (NH).  It was a fun, busy week and I learned a lot about the airplane and the airline business.  My next trip starts on Thursday as I visit Baltimore, Phoenix, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Islip, and Orlando.

I hope to see some family and friends on one of my flights very soon!!!  (snack packs and drink tickets for everyone!!!…)  My complete schedule is available on request.  Southwest is an amazing company to work for and to fly with.  I’m not just saying that because they sign my paycheck either…  I can’t believe how fortunate I’ve been in the last year.  Thank you all for your encouragement and support!!

Palmer Clan Site Limping Back

After the rather devastating hacker attack that the previous Palmer Clan Site underwent, I was forced to take the site offline, and upgrade some of the defenses against spam. In this case the spam came from people leaving comments in the blog about random spammy sort of topics like texas hold-em poker and various pharmaceutical scams. It was coming in about one per minute at the peak. Anyway, this new site is online at a hosting location that I rent, so there should be less downtime and less spam now.

The first order of business is to check out the email addresses above. Let me know if I’m missing any or any have changed. This is probably going to be for people that you are close to because if you got to this site it means that your email was working.

If you email me the missing or changed email, I will be happy to update it.

In the meantime bear with me as the site slowly comes back to a look and feel that is better than this
