yoyo,
This is Owen writing … I got into the Master’s of Science Program for Sports Management at UMass. They still have to consult with the MBA Program to decide if I’m accepted to the MBA/MS, but now at least I know I’m in somewhere. I also have an interview at UNC Charlotte and Ohio University, so with any luck I’ll have options, but this is a great start.

Congratulations Nate and Andrea, Grace and Rita

Congratulations Nate, Andrea, Grace and Rita on the recent announcement of Verwys #3 due sometime in early August!

Pause for effect, and then…..

I would formally like to register a complaint that the amount of time between significant announcements is dropping precipitously. The amount of time that Theo got to soak up the attention was huge compared to the miniscule amount of time that Martha has gotten. Based on this trend I expect (with no information, this is just a guess) another big announcement by the end of February.

Sorry Verwys #3 you will be born at a busy time! You’ll have to get your 15 minutes of fame later in your life. 😉

Don Patterson: American Patriot

American%20Patriot.jpg

From Don Jr.:

“Recently Rita and I attended the annual American Patriot Award gala at the magnificent Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington D.C. My company is one of the sponsors of the annual award, the purpose of which is to pay tribute to “an exceptional American who has demonstrated a profound and abiding love of country and whose inspirational leadership and selfless dedication to national security and to world peace have significantly advanced our Nation’s ideals, values and democratic principles.” It previously has been awarded to George H.W. Bush, Colin Powell, Senator Inouye, Senator Stevens, Caspar Weinberger, and Robert Dole. This year’s award was presented to John Glenn – former Senator and astronaut among other things. The mistress of ceremonies for the evening was Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC news (married to Alan Greenspan). The evening was exquisite and the atrium of the Reagan building where the formal dinner for 700 invited senior Administration officials, Members of Congress, senior military officials, and corporate and community leaders was spectacular in its own right but beautifully decorated for the evening.”

beanCasserole.jpg

  • 2 cups chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped green pepper
  • 1 14 oz can tomatoes, cut up
  • 3/4 cup picante sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 2 15 oz cans black beans or red kidney beans, drained (I use the black)
  • 12 6″ corn tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded low-fat Monterey Jack cheese (8oz)
  • 2 medium tomatoes, slice (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce (optional)
  • Sliced green onion (optional)
  • sliced pitted ripe olives (optional)
  • 1/2 cup reduced-calorie dairy sour
  1. In a large skillet combine onion, green pepper, undrained tomatoes, picante sauce, garlic, and cumin. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered, for 10 minutes, Stir in beans.
  2. In a 13 X 9 x 2 inch baking dish spread one-third of the bean mixture over bottom. Top with half of the tortillas, overlapping as necessary, and half of the cheese, Add another one-third of the bean mixture, then remaining tortillas and bean mixture. Cover and bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes or till heated through. Sprinkle with remaining cheese. Let stand for 10 minutes.
  3. If desired, top with tomato slices, lettuce, green onion, and olives.
